The Drabik & Wojtowicz Company have been meticulously restoring the glittery shine of the large baroque organs. The renovation’s progress was more than evident during the consecration of the new Bishop, Waldemar Pytel. The restored parts of the organ inspired awe thanks to their colours and gildings.
Conservators have disinfected and secured the weak parts of the organs, removing two layers of paint to expose the original paint layer.
“This is very important because in the 18th century the authors of the reconstruction chose to adapt the style and colour of the altar in the Church of Peace, which was built in 1752 by Augustus Hoffman”, says Ryszard Wojtowicz, the restorer and owner of the company carrying out the current renovation project.
The damaged angels and their instruments have been preserved. Parts of the organs that had been lost over the centuries have now also been reconstructed. Mortar has been added where needed, while polychromes and gildings have been renovated too – all of which helps to restore the original look of the sculptures.
On a part of the floor adjacent to the organ facade, under two additional layers of paint, the original layer paint was unveiled, along with the date of 1693 – the year in which this part of the ceiling was painted by two artists; Sisnebach and Kolitski.
