Polish professionals specialised in wood conservation, together with representatives of the Church of Peace, visited Levanger in Norway from November 23-25. Whilst sightseeing we saw wooden buildings and discussed issues concerning the maintenance of the wooden historic city centre. Moreover, we were shared both knowledge and experience on how to preserve monuments.

The visit is part of the plan from the agenda of the partnership project carried out by the Church of Peace, run together with partners from Norway under the title – “Preserving Historic Wood and Paper – a Polish-Norwegian Interdisciplinary Discussion.”

Our visit in Norway was proceeded one month earlier by the visit of guests from Levanger, who had the opportunity to see several wooden monuments in Poland: Kosieczyn (a church from the fourteenth century), Świdnica (The Church of Peace), Duszniki (a seventeenth-century paper mill), Chełmsko Śląskie (seventeenth-century houses of weavers) and Wrocław (a church of the sixteenth / seventeenth century situated in Park Szczytnicki). As part of the visit, Bishop Waldemar Pytel guided visitors around the Church of Peace while recalling its history. Ryszard Wójtowicz, the maintenance contractor of the large organ facade, also talked about the progress of its renovation.
