Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, websites or TV spots – there are a whole range of possibilities when it comes to presenting historical collections.

These mediums allow works to be made available to everyone, not only for specialists, says Sandrine Decoux. It is important to do it strategically and not just at random. “(…) these are planned actions that count” said a specialist from the Library of Oxford.

Representatives of institutions from Norway, England and Poland gathered in Norway from the 17-18th of November and took part in the conference “Historical Collections in Modern Institutions”, which was hosted by our Norwegian partner in Kristiansand.

We met at the Kristiansand Cathedral School, which has a historic library with over 10 thousand volumes. The necessity of activating these priceless collections was also emphasised by Stein Johansen from the University Library of Trondheim, who added that “In order to do it properly, the employees, first and foremost, need to understand the value of the volumes.”
