The Streichquartett (String Quartet), an anonymous piece of music from our archives, was played on September the 6th in Görlitz by our musicians from Świdnica.

They played in the Wichernsaal following an invitation from the association “Gemeinschaft ev. Schlesier e. V.” to join the celebration of its 65th anniversary.

In the evening’s repertoire (aside from the lutheran hymns) one could feel that this anonymous masterpiece was every bit as beautiful as some of Haydn’s and Mozart’s pieces. The quartet has come to light thanks to Stephan Aderhold, a musicologist who has been examining our archives for years now.

The music of violin music quartets is often associated with upper-class entertainment and linked with the classicism period (dated 1750-1830).

The music piece from Świdnica’a archive, which we believe was played for the first time since the XIX century, was performed by artists associated with the Church of Peace from Świdnica; Magdalena Środula (first violin), Martyn Bulińska (second violin), Barbara Sławińska (alto) and Magdalena Bulińska (cello) – all of whom performed in a band called ‘The Sound Quartet’. That night we also heard a voice of: Magdalena Kulig (mezzo-soprano), Katarzyna Szymko-Kawalec (alto), Zuzanna Bator (alto), Maciej Bator (bass / piano) and Rafal Czemarmazowicz (trumpet).
