There are only few buildings still standing in Miedzianka – a town that was once one of the most beautiful in the Sudetenland.

Displaced and ruined – the town became famous couple years ago after the successful release of the book called: “Miedzianka. Historia zanikania” (Miedzianka. The story of its vanishing) by Filip Springer.

Thanks to an initiative recently launched by local communities, a historical and educational path measuring 6km has been built. On it you can find 16 notice boards that are spread along the path informing readers about the town’s past.

One of the boards also recalls the churches of peace; both from Jawor and Świdnica. The notice board is located near where the old Protestant cemetery once stood. The sole item marking the existence of the cemetery is a recently funded monument built in memory of those who were buried there. The area sadly also has no richly decorated evangelical church, because it was blown up in 1974. The only thing that remains is the old stand of trees that surrounded the church.

Protestant history in Miedzianka dates back to 1551, when the first pastor – Balthazar Tilish was appointed.
