Two Sunday cantata services will be part of the International Bach Festival; one of which will be performed in the Church of Peace on the 26th of July.

During the sermon Bishop Waldemar Pytel will elaborate on the subject from the cantata “Seelig ist der Mann” BWV 57. Meanwhile, on the 2nd of August, he will refer to the cantata “O Jesu Christ, Meins Lebens Licht” BWV 118.

On the 25th of July in the church we will also hear Bach’s “Passion according to Saint John “, which will be sung by the countertenor Kai Wessel.

The highlight of this year’s 16th edition will certainly be Handel’s opera “Sosarme” by Capella Cracoviensis, which is to be conducted by Jan Tomasz Adamus – the artistic director of the festival. He believes that the wooden interior of the church makes Bach’s music intricacies sound exceptionally clearly, and that the perfectly preserved space of the church is more than compatible with his music.  The summer Festival is to move from place to place on different days, but it is the Church of Peace that is regarded as its central venue. This is also the very church whose singer, Christian Gottlob Wecker, was a disciple of the master from Leipzig.
