If you are between 16 and 26 years old, a German or a Pole and active in your community, you have a chance to be a hero. Local Heroes is an online contest organised by the Polish-German Youth Cooperation from Potsdam. During the contest groups composed of 3 young members should organise voluntary actions for their local communities.

These actions must be filmed and posted to the competition application on Facebook. Each team collects Internet comments and the GPYO jury evaluates the projects. The six best teams will win a trip to the Polish-German meeting of youth, which takes place on the Usedom island from the 14th to 19th of July 2015.

As part of the competition the training on voluntary work (including ways of helping local communities) will be provided.

We want to inspire young people to be active in their local communities, in turn convincing them that social activities can bring both benefits and fun. The skills gained may be useful on the job market – says Kevin Kiraga, a volunteer for GPYO.

You can register for the competition via the website:

or by an application on Facebook at
