Photography of the Church of Peace in Swidnica has won third place in the Wiki loves Monuments competition.
The podium winning photo, taken by Jaroslaw Ciurus, presents the church’s decorative ceiling filled to the brim with paintings. In the top ten (which was dominated by photographs of Lower Silesia) there were also other works by the same author capturing Wroclaw’s main train station and Grunwaldzki bridge.
Each year professional photographers and architects evaluate submitted works in an open photo competition, organized by the Wikimedia Polska Association. You can take a picture of every monument of historical value that is registered on the Provincial Monument Conservator’s list.
Wiki lubi zabytki ( Wiki loves Monuments) is the Polish edition of the global initiative of the same name. Founded in 2010, the contest has already been recognised in the Guinness Book of Records as being the world’s largest photo competition.
