At the end of August the overhaul of the altar in the Church of Peace (which was built by Gottfried Hofmann in 1752) was completed. The two year renovation process (which cost 750 thousand zlotych) has been funded entirely by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

Ryszard Wojtowicz, from the company „Drabik i Wójtowicz. Konserwacja i Restauracja Dzieł Sztuki” (“Drabik and Wójtowicz. Renovation and Overhaul of the Works of Art”), the same company that had previously carried out the renovation of the pulpit, acknowledged that the wood trim and some figurines of the altar were already in a very critical condition and that it was the last opportunity to save them.

To our great surprise, during the renovation works we also discovered that the railings were oryginally purple. This colour was deeply hidden under a thick layer of paint and dirt.

After the restoration of the pulpit and the altar this year, a major overhaul of the large seventeenth-century organs will begin (as a part of the Norwegian-Polish project).
